Carla Sophie Gascon talks about the two years of preparation it took for this demanding role in Jacques Audiard’s film, and the two extremes of her own personality that she had to interpret as Emily and Manitas. Jacques Audiard said that he was inspired by a chapter in a novel about a drug dealer who longs to change his identity.

I’m speechless… I think all the positive reviews are from people who a) don’t speak Spanish and b) wanted their caricatures of Mexicans and transgender people to be validated. The dialogue is unbearable, no one talks like that.
Let’s not even talk about Selena) are not good
The music is shocking, the accents (although Zoe Saldana is clearly trying hard. The swear words sprinkled throughout made the movie feel so contrived, not just because of the delivery of how they are used. It was clearly written by someone with a vague knowledge of Mexican culture, but it’s certainly not enough to do any good.
That’s it, Mexicans should avoid it at all costs
The only redeeming quality of this movie is that it is, without a doubt, beautiful.
